There I was, about to hop on the bus, when I noticed a few folks casually skipping the fare by not tapping their Opus cards. Temptation struck me to do the same (Yes, I had a moment of weakness – Shame)
But just as I was about to go for it, something held me back
“If I can’t be trusted with small things, how could I be trusted with more? ”
~ Luke 6:10
God, surely that’s you?
It stuck with me and so I decided to skip the bus and ponder my life choices.
At the corner, I couldn’t help but think about my recent ER visit—because nothing says “deep reflection” like a hefty medical bill.
The ER Visit
For context, I accidentally sliced my hand on a broken mirror which landed me in the hospital.
$1,800 just to walk through the door, not even counting the doctor’s fee. Kaching $$$.
Thankfully, the lovely Jewish doctor didn’t charge me for the stitches, so I got a little divine favor there. (Bless her.)
After such a lucky break, I was about to skip paying a $3.75 bus ride? Utter disgrace.
To top it off, a concerned guy who saw me rushing to the bus said,
“Honey, never rush to a bus or train—I saw one do that in Chicago, and it was the last ride she ever had. The train crushed her.”
He had no idea of my initial agenda but would you look at that? Warning signs. If it isn’t divine intervention, then I don’t know what it is.
Moral of this story
1. Life is a test, your integrity is everything. Cut corners or take shortcuts, the universe will have a funny way collecting its dues. Spoiler: It often comes with interest.
It may not be in cash, but it could be in time, mental space, or that nagging guilt.
Stick to the truth and what is right – it’s more efficient.
2. God speaks through people and situations. Reflect on these moments. You’ll find lessons you might miss otherwise. I wouldn’t have connected these dots if I hadn’t written them down. If I don’t learn from this, I’m pretty sure I’ll be retaking the test until I finally get it.
They weren’t kidding when they said “the cycle repeats.”
Write it down, learn from it, and then act on it. Because when you’re honest and reflective, life’s lessons stick better— and you might just save yourself from a few more unexpected shenanigans.
Have a fantastique Sunday!
