01The Meditation
I woke at 8 a.m. but didn't begin meditating until 4:50 p.m. Procrastination. Too much time spent deliberating over which app to use.
In the end I decided against Headspace or Calm entirely ~ I wanted to try clearing my mind without digital assistance. That turned out to be harder than expected.
Intrusive thoughts kept surfacing. The mind does not enjoy being told to be quiet. Eight minutes in, I was already checking the clock.
02Day 1 Rundown
Prepared a meal at home
Reserved temporary European accommodations
Enrolled in a meal delivery service ~ complimentary first box
Spent an hour on the phone with Mama
Attended two afro-dance classes by bicycle
Dined on Montreal poutine at Poutineville with Mexican friends
Took an Uber home ~ too exhausted to bike back
03What Comes Next
I'm deciding between extending my Montreal stay before Italy, or spending my final two weeks in Quebec City. After reviewing options on Airbnb, I'm leaning toward staying in Montreal ~ the amenities are too convenient, and the dance commitments are real.
Mama weighed in too. Her counsel: consider applying for permanent residency and plan a shorter Italy trip instead. Not a bad idea.
One day at a time. First ~ finish the 10 minutes.
Day 1 done.
It wasn't graceful. The mind wandered, the timing was late, and the app debate cost an hour. But it happened. Day 1 is checked.
