The Nomad
OS

You didn't go nomad to escape. You went because building something real, on your own terms, felt possible. This is the operating system for people who want a stable legal base ~ and the full freedom to build their own products on top of it.

~ The Reframe

The nomad life is the setup.

Most nomads just swap one cage for a more aesthetic one. Still dependent on a single employer. Still waiting for a visa officer's approval. Still reacting to systems built by other people.

Real freedom isn't location independence. It's product independence ~ a stable legal base you own, an income that doesn't require a boss, and the space to build your own vision. That's what this OS is engineered for.

$ run nomad-os --audit-freedom

› Scanning dependency stack...

✗ Income source: 1 employer (single point of failure)

✗ Legal status: tourist visa (no rights, no base)

✗ Products owned: 0

✓ Remote income: above DNV threshold

✓ Intent to build: confirmed

⚠ 3 dependencies to eliminate. Starting with legal base.

~ The Framework

The Sovereignty Ladder

Three states. Most people stay in the first one their entire nomad life and call it freedom. This playbook is built to move you through all three.

01

The Dependent

Still Running

  • ~Location free, but still trading time for a boss's money
  • ~Prettier cafe, same cage ~ no real leverage
  • ~Visa runs and Schengen calculators as a lifestyle
  • ~Freedom FROM something ~ not freedom TO build
This Playbook
02

The Builder

Rooted

  • Legal base secured ~ Spain DNV, TIE, EU rights
  • Income above DNV threshold ~ first layer of independence
  • Building the first product from a stable operating environment
  • The transition from dependent to self-directed
Spain Settler Playbook (Coming Soon)
03

The Sovereign

Transcended

  • ~Products that generate while you live ~ no single employer
  • ~Permanent Residency → Citizenship → Spanish passport
  • ~A stable base and a vision that belongs to no one else
  • ~Freedom TO ~ your own products, your own terms

~ What's Inside

The 4 phases

PHASE_013 Lessons

Realign~ Know your starting position.

You are not a tourist. You are a builder in transition. Before you build anything, you need to know what you are working with ~ and what you are actually building toward.

01

Your Passport Profile

12 min

Not all passports are equal ~ but most people have more options than they think. This lesson maps your actual mobility stack: which visas you qualify for, which countries you can use as launchpads, and what your real constraints are versus the perceived ones. The goal isn't more stamps. It's knowing your infrastructure options so you can choose the right base to build from.

The Financial Position Audit

18 min

The DNV income threshold sounds simple. It isn't. This lesson covers what 'proof of income' actually means, which documents satisfy consulates, how to structure income from multiple sources, and how to calculate the exact number you need to hit before you apply. This is also where you face the real question: is your income building toward independence, or still tied to a single employer?

The DNV has one hard requirement. Let's check if you clear it.

Build Your Document OS

20 min

This is the Command Center. A master tracking system for every document you need ~ expiry dates, apostille requirements, translation deadlines, and renewal windows. You will never miss a detail because it will never be just in your head. The people who get approved are not smarter ~ they are more organised.

Apostille ~ What it means

An apostille is a government seal that authenticates the origin of a document for use in foreign countries. In the US, apostilles are issued by your Secretary of State's office for the state where the document was issued. Federal documents (FBI background check, federal tax returns) are apostilled through the US Department of State.

“The DNV is won or lost in document preparation. Most rejections aren't from ineligibility ~ they're from incomplete stacks. The consulado wants to say yes. Give them nothing to say no to.”

~ Abie Maxey

PHASE_023 Lessons

Root~ Build the legal foundation.

The Spain DNV isn't a travel hack. It's the infrastructure layer ~ the legal right to exist as a person, a business, and a tax entity. You can't build a skyscraper on sand.

04

The Visa Command Center Setup

25 min

Most applications fail on organisation, not eligibility. Kahneman called it the planning fallacy ~ we systematically underestimate complexity when it's wrapped in emotion. The Visa Command Center is about externalising your entire application into a system that doesn't panic, forget, or cut corners. Every document category. Every expiry date. Every appointment slot. Not in your head ~ in a structure that holds the complexity for you. Use Notion, a spreadsheet, or a physical binder ~ the format doesn't matter. The discipline does.

05

Timeline Engineering

15 min

Work backwards from the consulate appointment, not forwards from today. The apostille alone takes 30-60 days through DFA. The NBI clearance takes 4-6 weeks and expires within 6 months of issue. Health insurance can't start too early or too late. Every document has a window ~ miss it and you start over. Enter your target submission date below and every deadline gets reverse-engineered for you automatically.

Budget Architecture

14 min

Hormozi's insight applies here: most people calculate the cost of action and ignore the cost of inaction. The DNV process costs €5,000-15,000 out of pocket when you include all vectors. But the cost of remaining a visa-run tourist for 5 more years ~ in lost optionality, delayed citizenship clock, and compounding dependence on a single employer ~ dwarfs that by an order of magnitude. Budget toward the top end. Don't let cost variance be the reason the application stalls. Toggle between income models below and see the full honest breakdown.

dnv ~ budget-architecture

Income Proof Model

Monthly model: Freelance income works if it's consistent and documented. Mix of sources is fine ~ combine payslips, invoices, and bank statements. The consulate wants to see a pattern, not a one-time deposit.

Application Fees

Consulate / UGE processing fee

Paid at appointment. Non-refundable.

75 ~ €105

NIE registration (if separate)

Tax identification number ~ often bundled.

10 ~ €20

Document Preparation

NBI / police clearance

Plus courier or shipping if applicable.

5 ~ €30

DFA apostille (per document)

Budget 3-5 documents at €30-50 each + DFA fees.

50 ~ €180

Certified translations

€80-200 per document. Criminal record + birth cert are typical.

100 ~ €280

PSA documents

Via PSAHelpline. Per-document fee + delivery.

10 ~ €40

Health Insurance

Annual private insurance policy

Asisa, Mapfre, or Sanitas. Must cover Spain for 12+ months.

700 ~ €1,600

Travel & Arrival

Flights (PHL to Spain)

One-way or return depending on consulate appointment location.

400 ~ €1,200

First month accommodation

Varies heavily by city ~ Barcelona/Madrid vs Seville/Valencia.

800 ~ €2,500

Operating Runway Buffer

3-month cash buffer

€1,200-3,000/month to stay solvent while settling in and building.

3,600 ~ €9,000

Total estimated outlay

5,750 ~ €14,955

Excluding income proof requirement

Income required

€2,400/mo

sustained, documented

Budget toward the top end ~ always. The variables that eat people alive are apostille turnaround times, last-minute translation fees, and tight flight windows. The cost of a rejected application is worse than the cost of over-preparing.

~ Who it's for

Built for people who want to build, not just travel.

You don't want another visa guide. You want the full architecture ~ legal base, financial clarity, and a clear path to building products that are entirely yours. This playbook is for that person.

Remote workers ready to stop renting their income

You have the skill. You need the base ~ legal, financial, operational ~ to stop depending on a single employer and start building your own.

Filipino passport holders on the mobility ladder

Designed for our specific constraints: third-country visa runs, income proof structures, and the 2-year citizenship fast track that turns a PH passport into a top-5 global document.

Builders who need a stable base to build from

Not a beach hopper. Someone who wants one solid place to operate from ~ legally rooted, financially clear ~ so their mental RAM is free for the actual work.

People who have been rejected or stalled

The most common rejection reasons ~ and how to engineer around every one of them before you submit. Most rejections are avoidable. This playbook is about making sure none of the avoidable ones happen to you.
