~ Before We Start

Run the Audit.

Five questions. Two minutes. A complete map of what's actually keeping you ~ and which phase of this playbook to attack first.

Most playbooks give everyone the same path. This one responds to where you actually are.

1 of 5
Income Sources

Where does your money come from?

Be honest. This is the first wall.

~ The Problem

You are not stuck. You are dependent.

There is a difference. Stuck means no way out. Dependent means the exit is there ~ you just have not built the leverage to take it yet.

Every dependency is closeable. The income one, the location one, the skills one, the runway one. This playbook closes them in sequence ~ starting with the one that is actually blocking you.

$ run still-running --map-dependencies

› Mapping dependency graph...

✗ Income: 100% employer-dependent

✗ Location: requires employer permission

✗ Schedule: 9–5 by contract, not choice

✗ Income ceiling: capped by someone else's budget

✓ Skills: portable (underutilised)

✓ Intent to escape: confirmed

⚠ 4 dependencies mapped. Each one is breakable.

~ What's Inside

The 4 phases

PHASE_013 Lessons

Audit~ Know exactly what's keeping you.

You can't break a cage you can't see. This phase maps every dependency your current life has on your employer ~ income, location, schedule, identity ~ and gives you a clear picture of what actually needs to change.

01

The Cage Map

15 min

Most people can name their symptoms ~ tired, underpaid, stuck ~ but can't name their actual constraints. This lesson walks you through mapping every dependency your current life has on your employer: income, location, schedule, identity, and legal status. The result is a complete picture of what's actually holding you. You cannot break a cage you cannot see.

02

The Cost of Staying

12 min

The cage is comfortable. That's the point. This lesson calculates the real cost of staying another year, another three, another five ~ not just in income foregone, but in optionality lost, leverage unbuilt, and the slow narrowing of what feels possible. The most dangerous thing about a comfortable cage is that it doesn't feel like one.

Your Freedom Score

10 min

Your starting position mapped across six dimensions: time, location, income, skills, optionality, and identity. This is your baseline ~ not a judgment, a starting point. Everything from here is about moving the score.

Interactive · Freedom Score

Six dimensions. Honest answers only.

3 minutes · No right answers ~ only real ones

“The only real test of freedom is: can you walk away? Not emotionally ~ financially, logistically, and psychologically. This score tells you exactly how far you are from that answer being yes.”

~ Abie Maxey

PHASE_023 Lessons

Stack~ Build the income proof before you quit.

The difference between people who leave and people who stay is not ambition ~ it is proof of concept. This phase takes you from zero to first dollar outside your employer, before the resignation letter.

04

The Portable Skill Set

20 min

Your skills are more portable than you think. They are just not packaged that way yet. This lesson teaches you to translate what you do at work into what the market pays for outside of it. The goal is not a side hustle. It is proof of income that does not require your employer's permission.

Interactive · Portable Skill Set Builder

Not all skills travel with you. Most stay behind with the badge.

Built on Naval Ravikant's concept of specific knowledge

Commodity

Expected, widely available, easily replaced. These keep you employed ~ they don't make you free.

Transferable

Valuable across employers. Gets you options inside employment. A solid foundation ~ not the ceiling.

Specific Knowledge

What Naval calls 'specific knowledge.' Cannot be taught in a course. Built through genuine obsession. This is where independence begins.

Leverage

Output that scales without your time. Content, code, systems, audience. The only path to truly asymmetric returns.

The Key Insight

System 1 skills are your edge. System 2 skills are your floor.

System 2 thinking is slow, deliberate, trainable ~ anyone can learn it from a course. System 1 is fast, intuitive, built from years of pattern-matching in a specific domain. The internet has commoditized every System 2 skill. What it can't commoditize is your specific combination of obsessions, experiences, and judgment.

~ Inspired by Kahneman & Naval

“Specific knowledge is knowledge that you cannot be trained for. If society can train you, it can replace you.”

~ Naval Ravikant

05

The Side Income Architecture

22 min

One client before you quit changes everything about how the decision feels. This lesson covers the fastest path from zero to first dollar outside your employer, what types of income compound versus expire, and how to structure your time so you can build while still employed. Most people wait until they quit to start. The ones who leave cleanly start while they're still in.

06

The Number

18 min

Not a vague 'enough.' The exact monthly figure you need to hit before you can exit ~ accounting for taxes, healthcare, a cash buffer, and your actual cost of living. Most people think they need more than they do. Some need more than they think. This lesson gives you the real number and a timeline for reaching it.
